Sneeze

One of the many things Paul inherited from his dad and grandpa was a loud sneeze. (We won’t go into the time Grandpa sneezed 17 times in a row [his grandsons counted] one Sunday at Harrisburg Church.)

Last night I was getting something out of the trunk of the car when I heard Paul sneeze--close by, I thought. I looked around and was astonished to see him driving by in his pickup (with the window down) out on Powerline Road.

I went into the kitchen and there was Ben. He said, "Mom! You are not going to believe this! I was out at the picnic table and Dad went driving by in his pickup and I HEARD HIM SNEEZE!"

Just then Amy came bustling downstairs. "Oh, Mom, you are NOT going to believe this! I was up in my room and Dad was driving by in his pickup and I HEARD HIM SNEEZE!"

That was some sneeze.

Quote of the Day:
"Uh-HIH-hoo!!"
–Amy, imitating her dad sneezing

  3. Mercy, I hope that Paul doesn't ever try to hold one in, being that it is that loud, could do serious damage I would think, eh? {:^)

  5. My record is only eight. That's not even close to 17. Guess I have a long way to go. Four or five is pretty normal for me, and people seem to think that even that is quite remarkable. I don't think I am known for my sneezing volume, though--just the number of sneezes (which now pales in comparison).

  7. I have a really loud sneeze too. And unfortunately I do sneeze at least three or four times in a row. More is not unlikely... But there isn't a thing I can do against it.

  8. There must be some connection between fathers and loud sneezes. It seems my dad isn't the only loud sneezer out there.

  9. Everyone is coming out of the closet with a loud sneezing father, but the big question is this: Has your father ever done a drive-by sneezing?

  10. "a drive-by sneezing"??? Hans, don't do this to me--I'm going to pop a blood vessel laughing.

  11. You’re right! You can also inherit a characteristic sneeze! My wife maintains that our three sons have inherited mine. The funny thing is that it was only noticeable once their voice broke. By the time it happened to the youngest we were waiting for it, and it was uncanny the way the sneeze changed. Only a couple of months after the voice broke, there was a transformation from a child’s atishoo into an unspellable (unspeakable, DW would say) man’s nasal outburst.

So it won’t be long until you know who has inherited whose sneeze!
