Menno-Discuss

A while back Hans Mast advertised a new forum called MennoDiscuss in a comment on my blog. I checked it out a time or two but didn't pay too much attention to it. But then, like a potential alcoholic who takes That Decisive Drink, I got into it the other day and couldn't get off. In the next couple of days I read people's profiles and tried to figure out if they were anyone I knew. I read about modesty, about gossip, about courtship, about books. I even plowed through a 12-page discussion on rings and watches and the connotations they have for us Mennonites. Then I just had to put in my two bits so I signed in myself. Then I had to keep checking to see if anyone had said hello.

Last night someone finally confronted me about my addiction, and it wasn't pretty. Matt was the one who cared enough to do this, and he made his point by a vivid imitation of me at the computer reading MennoDiscuss--Expressionless face, unblinking, hand on the mouse, mouth hanging slightly open (horrors!!), oblivious to everyone around me saying my name.

So, enough. If I get on MennoDiscuss today I have to give Matt a dollar.

If you want to check it out, I think it's at www.mennodiscuss.com, but I'm not going to go there to check for sure.

Quote of the Day:
"Mom, you're starting to look hypnotized."

  3. Hans, you may find that funny, just wait till YOU have a family!Dorcas, I understand your 'problem'. When you have a family, it's difficult to make proper time for family when either spouse is glued to the computer.

  4. Arlene, interesting that you should ask if I found anyone I knew. ("Me, me me!!" she says, bouncing up and down in her seat, waving her hand in the air.)
    Also found a couple others.

That was only when I could keep a straight face!

  9. Humm...one dollar isn't much to pay for an addiction! Yes, blogging or any computer passions can have the pull of pornography. I've had to limit myself to just two days/week. And, yes, Thursday (today) is one of them. Keep balanced.

  10. I know, a dollar isn't much, but it's something. And as they say, it's the certainty rather than the severity of a consequence that acts as a deterrent.
    And it worked, too.

  12. Dorcas, been nice seeing you at MD. The place needs the *ahem* maturity of view we slightly older folks can bring into the discussions. At the beginning I felt somewhat out of it with all the younger posters there, under 25, but some "older" folks are showing up now and I like that.

I have to admit though, I tend to forget my own blog, the house work, the yard, the car, the pets, and forget going to sleep! Yeah, the place is rather addictive, but I have it made, no one else in the house uses the computer, it is mine, all mine........see ya, gotta check out MD, if you want I'll send you the dollar!
