Column on Getting Rid of Books, or Not

Today's column took off of my post about getting rid of books.

You can find it here.

I've had some computer and email troubles lately, and a bunch of email addresses are gone. If you're on my list of people who get my column by email every month, and you don't get them any more, please let me know -- dorcassmucker@gmail.com.

Or if this happened to someone you know, please send them my way.

P.S--I had a typo in the email address which I've just corrected. If you sent an email to the wrong one, please re-send it--sorry about that.

  1. I love this column. It makes me feel Very Much Better for not being able to get rid of any of my daughter's books. When I moved, I downsized everything but my books... we somehow found room.

  2. Oh, yes, I can relate to this post. I'm so glad you kept all those books!

  3. I love my old books. I put things in them to mark where I stopped reading or just to keep something safe. Foreign banknotes, old photos, labels, ephemera . . .; my old books are little treasure capsules.

At the moment I am writing about trips I took to Greece thirty years ago and using the books I read before I went. How can we ever know when we are done with a book?

And those glorious old, thick, luxurious books from before paper became expensive: they don't make such beautiful things anymore, and if they did, who could afford them?

  4. DEK--I love your idea. I put old birthday cards and love notes and such all through my cookbooks, but I'm going to follow your example and expand to other books and memorabilia. And yes, those amazing old books--they just don't make them like that any more.
