Remember the old woman who lived in a shoe? I'm a lot like her, with a husband and varying numbers of children in our 100-year-old farmhouse. This blog is about our lives.
Great article, Dorcas! It got me to thinking about all the kitchens I've lived in during my lifetime. Right now mine is a 1-person kitchen. But I love it when there are several people there - either helping or sampling!! -coleensr
And the brown rice in the crockpot? Do you remember the specifics how you did it? I love my crockpot, but didn't know if you could do rice in it other than parboiled rice. Does it stick to the sides or get mushy, or ???
Sharon--brown rice doesn't get as mushy in the crock pot as white because the cooking time is so much longer, but it still wasn't anything remotely gourmet, just hot cheap food. As I recall--1 cup of brown rice, 2 cups water, salt, pepper, chopped onion, garlic, maybe a bit of cream of mushroom soup, and a turkey thigh, and sometimes I'd break the bone with a hammer so the lid would fit on. Can't remember if I left it on high or low all day.
