I'm Publishing a Novel!

[People--this is a joke.  Notice the date.  This is hard evidence that young people should go to bed BEFORE their parents and not after.  Emily and Jenny were the brilliant minds behind this travesty.  That PICTURE...mercy on us all.]

Taking a break from the “Retaining Honor” series to announce…

My first novel, "Oregon Dreams," is coming out fall 2014!
My publisher finally gave the ok for me to announce it, and show you the finished cover, which is below, along with the back-cover blurb. (And yes, it is loosely based on Paul’s and my relationship.)

Leaving behind her Amish heritage and troubled past, Edna Beiler accepts a teaching position in the distant state of Oregon, hoping to start over. Edna throws herself into her teaching duties, hoping to never have to deal with heartbreak again. Little does she realize that God might have more for her than she expected. As Philip Kropf, the handsome teacher in the next classroom, is increasing charmed by her quirky humor, Edna finds herself withdrawing more and more. Can she ever learn to accept love again?

Quote of the Day
Mom, how on earth are you going to sit on that secret until April?
-Emily, when I announced my book deal to the family last winter, and told them that my publisher wanted me to keep it a secret.

  3. Howling.

Um. No offense, but that back cover blurb sounds like something Emily wrote during a bout of indigestion.

Dorcas Smucker goes Amish romance? That's a good one.

  4. Your cover looks a lot more Amish than the Amish bonnet romances I see around our library!! So, my guess is this is a joke...you need to photo shop that pic into a gorgeous made up young lady for me to take this seriously! :-D

  5. Taking it all in-- the hugely outdated glasses, but especially "will she ever be open to love again" I'm crying fowl.

  7. This is so exciting!

Tell Emily she needs to keep her adjectives and adverbs straight even in bouts of indigestion. It "increasingly", not "increasing".

  8. Oh my livin' stars, this is a terribly distrubing thing to wake up to the morning after April Fools. So THAT'S why Emily was looking through that old photo album last night before I went to bed.
    Revenge. I must. get. revenge.

  9. I was trying to think charitably about that cover, but it just didn't look right- the font too generic among other things.

This was really funny and I must admit to feelings of relief :)

  11. Oh my!! I was wondering if Dorcas would actually write a book like that. When I read the 'back cover' I had some doubts! That's too good! =)

  13. I might be in the minority here, but I am impressed with the cover. It looks like a real book. If I saw this on the shelf of my local bookstore or the library, I would snap it up in a heartbeat, and I am not even Mennonite or Amish for that matter. I just like reading about people. So if you do write a novel or even a true story, this cover would be great.
